I had a great time visiting Albania and Butrint National Park. The ruins are very interesting and it is set back in a Forrest. The guides are brilliant and direct you and give lots of information. The walk can be difficult for some and the paths are very stony, so could easily trip if not paying attention. The boat doesn’t take long at all, and plenty of seats with a shop to buy beers, drinks and snacks. There is a one off 20 Euro tax when you get onto the boat this is paid to cover the journey there and back. Shout out to the lady on the boat, she was very helpful and informative. You also get lunch in a nice Forrest setting, drinks are extra and they prefer payment in Euros as do most of the places in Albania. On the return to the port side, you get around and hour to explore before heading back. When you arrive back at the Corfu port and go through customs, the return coaches all have the hotels listed on their windscreens, so look out for that. Also, I had an issue in that on my ticket it said 8:45 however my pick up was 6:10am, so the operator very kindly changed the day to the day afterwards at no extra cost, 10/10 for customer service. But please make sure you check the times on the Viator website messages section or junk email in box. Overall great experience, and I would recommend.

Great day in Albania
Raymond_P, Aug 2025
Picked up at our Hotel 06.40 and arrived in Corfu town around 8 for our 9.15 sailing to Sarande which took around 1 hour 10 minutes We were then shown to our coach for our guided tour to Butrint. Our guide on the bus and in Butrint spoke perfect English and was very informative all day on the bus and at the archaeological site After our tour we then had an excellent lunch and we then taken back to Sarande where we had around 45 minutes to explore the shops and bars on the promenade before heading back to our 3.15 boat. We arrived back in Corfu town around 17.30 local time and passes through customs in about 15 minutes before heading to our coach for the return journey to our Hotel Unfortunately our coach never arrived until 19.10 despite repeated assurances from the Ioannian Cruise rep that the bus was on its way and nearby!!! After 20 mins on the bus 4 of us from our Hotel were transferred into a private taxi and taken home apparently at the cost of the bus driver. We didn’t complain as we were home an hour later than advertised but at least 30 mins quicker in the taxi. Overall tour was great apart from return transfer which could have been handled and communicated better to the 30 delayed customers
Staff attitudes need to change
Janine_G, Aug 2025
The trip itself was ok but the rudeness of the staff particularly the bus driver spoilt it. Not only was he very unclear but when I asked for clarification he shouted at me. The trip could also have been better organised, there were times when it was very confusing. Albania was lovely but I wouldn't book again with this company as they seem to treat customers with contempt
Not good!
Barbara_J, Aug 2025
Not helpful at all! Couldn't do the trip and no refunds either! Left alone with two children to find a way back to the hotel!

Albania is beautiful!
Annette_W, Jul 2025
TOUR IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! Amazing guide (sorry forgot name) with lots of historic information. Very professional and well run. Timing was well done…even had time for a swim at the nearby beach (closest one to the beach is a pebble beach, which I appreciated so I wasn’t bringing sand with me on the ferry). Yes, you go through customs twice. Yes, it takes time. But nothing extraordinary. Ps: bring water. Or bring 1 euro and buy it on the ferry. You will need it. And it’s a good amount of walking. FYI. Albania is amazing…it is a growing tourist site. So go now. ☺️
Excellent tour guide,...
Sarah_C, Jul 2025
Excellent tour guide, Butrint was amazing, there was more there to see than I expected. Would have liked a bit more time in the museum there, we didn’t need so much free time in Saranda.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Thank you for your lovely review! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the tour and found Butrint as impressive as we do — it’s truly a fascinating site with so much history to uncover. We appreciate your feedback regarding the time allocation between the museum and free time in Saranda. We’re always looking for ways to fine-tune our itineraries, and your comments help us do just that. We hope to welcome you on another adventure soon!
It’s a good trip compared...
Kristina_C, Jun 2025
It’s a good trip compared to the ones in Corfu but if it’s compared to other countries not so good and the Viator adviser wasn’t very helpful when I wrote to him about a concern almost sounded sarcastic
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. We're glad to hear you found the trip enjoyable compared to other options in Corfu, though we’re sorry it didn’t fully meet your expectations when compared to similar experiences abroad. Your comments help us continue improving, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share them.
Great tour, takes the hassle out of everything
Philip_M, May 2025
Fantastic tour; buses, ferries, customs, all negotiated with ease. Archaeological site was amazing, lunch really tasty, followed by an hour or so in Saranda, which is just enough. Highly recommended
Would recommend, but highly advise that you do the excursion.
Nicholas_E, Oct 2024
Went to Sarandë, Albania on the 9th October 2024 and enjoyed our time in Albania, however it there wasn’t a great deal to deal if you opt for the free time in Saranadë. There are an abundance of dessert cafes, restaurants, cafes, and cocktail bars. There are few shops which all sell the same stuff (souvenirs etc.). You get 6 hours free time if you don’t do the excursion, but could easily cover Sarandë in 2 hours. We are glad we went to Sarandë as we can say we have been to Albania and Sarandë is very beautiful, probably even more so with the Adriatic sun beaming down on it, but would not rush back. The organisation of the tour operator Ionian Cruises/Pachis Travel was amazing! Transfers from Sidari were all perfect and sorted, you can pay the customs fee by card or cash on the boat and there is a little cafe on the boat serving snacks and espressos but this is cash only. Overall a 4/5!
History Beyond Athens and Rome

Learn about a part of the ancient world beyond Athens and Rome. Fascinating and enlightening tour. Fun boat ride between Corfu-Albania-Corfu.
Beautiful sunny friendly day trip
Tuulike_H, Oct 2024
Beautiful sunny day tour, archeological site was great, tour guide Mira very knowledgeable and her interesting details regarding Albania added spice. I did not know anything about Albania before this trip. I can say that Albania is now in my list of countries where to go again.
Great Trip
Kerry_M, Sep 2024
Great trip and excellent value for money. Our Albanian guide Ilya was great and so knowledgeable and spoke excellent English on the tour to Butrint. Loved chins included with great commentary and information about both Albania and Butrint. We were lucky to have excellent weather. The promenade at Sarada is lovely. We went to Lemini for cocktails - very cheap 5E and lovely setting.
Give this one a miss.
Carl_G, Sep 2024
Where to begin with this tour. Pickup was made on time outside our hotel at the main road in a coach. We were then taken to the port. We were given boarding cards and told to go through customs. This took about 1 hour as a lot of people were passing through. We then queued to board. Once onboard we had to que again to pay our port fees of 15 euros each. We were asked if we wanted to do the trip to the archeological site but we declined as this would’ve cost another 25 euros each. The journey took about an hour to get to Albania. Once we arrived we was swiftly told to exit out the port and explore. This was done with little instruction on what to see or do. We really didn’t enjoy our time as Saranda was nothing but generic coffee shops/restaurants and endless copy and paste hotels. We were approached about 100 times for taxis to get away from the town. We couldn’t wait to leave. After time was up we queued for customs again to come back and then again to board while we waited for about 6 cars to board before us. We were happy to finally be aboard heading back to Corfu. Once back in Corfu we were greeted by customs again to check our passports. The passport attended was very rude when I had queued the wrong side forgetting that the UK was no longer in the EU. So once that was done the real chaos began. We were told to wait by our coaches to take us back to our hotel. Our hotel was a 10 minute drive from the port for reference. We waited nearly 45 and no coach driver arrived for our coach and we still had another 20 odd people going through customs. I spoke to a member of staff who was very honest and suggested we just take a taxi to the hotel as I could be another hour of waiting. This cost me 20 euros. All in all I can’t recommend this tour. It was not a fun experience. The tour company were barely present so all you really pay for is the boat.
Lovely food and drinks
1
Nicole_H, Sep 2024
The boat is so smooth and only takes an hour! Beautiful journey. Albania is very pretty along the front, cheap food and drinks. The ticket collection wasn't explained, but you have to go outside and collect a boarding pass from the crew and then line up, go through passport control and wait for the boat. Then inside the boat you decide whether you want the guided tour or just roam freely and pay the £15 per person port fee and gain your boarding passes for the return trip. It was still really lovely hot weather in early september.
Albania in a day
CAROL_B, Sep 2024
Excellent trip, a chance to visit relatively unknown Albania. Great experience, well organised, and excellent value for money. A must do is The Roman Archialogical Site at Butrinti. Very interesting, knowledgeable guides. Had a fabulous day
Good Experience
Manish_A, Aug 2024
The staff was excellent and crew was helpful. Its been a while so can't remember a lots. My family had no complaints and once we were in Albania, it was upto us to explore the city. The only confusion was that the staff asked us to meet where they had dropped us but in reality we would need to pass through the customs which was further away.
Unorganised and rude staff
Ellie_C, Aug 2024
Very unorganised, staff are rude and impatient and will start shouting at other members of staff in front of everyone. 1.5hours delay so was unable to have the full experience and have been refused a partial refund by Viator despite the tour guides admitting to fault. On the archeological park tour, lunch was included which was nice food but not everyone had time to finish their food due to being rushed by staff. Albania is a beautiful country from what we had time to see but I wouldn’t recommend booking a trip from Corfu. All booking sites use the same tour group so the boat is very full and people didn’t not have a place to sit for the 1hour boat ride.
Day trip to Albania with tour of Butrint and Sarande with lunch
1
Matthew_M, Jul 2024
The actual tour part of this experience is excellent. We were lucky to have Dori guiding us around Butrint and Sarande on our day trip to Albania. Having Dori explain the history of the country, the area, and the archaeological site itself gives you a thorough overview without overwhelming you. And though she was not our guide directly, multiple guests on our tour commented how great it was to have Yiota around as she found a way to help people at all stages of the day trip. I had read some reviews commenting how the actual trip is great but it’s chaotic once you arrive at the port. For this reason, I chose to get a hotel pickup. However, my advice is to only do this if you are staying far outside Corfu Town. The bus driver doesn’t give you any information or explain what to do once you arrive. Also, at the end of the day, you wind up having to wait at least 30 minutes for the bus to depart even if everyone that’s expected is already on the bus. We had the unfortunate experience of being one of the first picked up in the morning and the last dropped off in the evening. You’re better off with a taxi if you are staying in Corfu Town. Ionian Cruises could provide a 5 star experience by explaining what to do and where to go for boarding cards and customs via email or with flyers distributed on the buses. Also, the boarding could go a lot faster if you have people with mobile payment options helping guests in the queue waiting to board, or by approaching everyone once they are already on the ferry. The trip takes long enough that you’d have plenty of time to do so.
Nice cruise and tour

The bus tour to Butrint was great. Lunch was nice. The boat ride was a little rough on the way back. Saranda is pretty.
Amazing
Amy_E, Jun 2024
This was such an amazing day on our holiday! They picked us up straight from our hotel and everything went very smoothly. The boat was nice and clean and not too packed with people. I highly recommend doing the Butrint add on when you get on the boat. It was well worth the money as we had a buffet lunch included (drinks excluded). Overall a very good day out!
